Who We Are

Sound of Silence Africa Initiative abbreviated as SOSAI is a legally registered not for profit and Non-Governmental Organization-NGO; Organization of Persons with Disabilities-OPD founded in 2019 and legally registered and incorporated as a company limited by guarantee (under section 18(3) of the Companies Act 2012) of the Republic of Uganda, with the registration number 80034340808286 in 2023 with the goal of helping improve lives of children disabilities in Uganda.

OUR GOAL

To create an inclusive society where children with disabilities are empowered, nurtured and supported to reach their potential and accorded dignity as well as having equal access to opportunities as everyone else in accordance with article 4,5,6, and 7 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), The SDGs Framework specifically Goal 1, 2, 3, 4 and Goal 10, The UNESCO’s Inclusive Education Framework, The UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, The Human Rights Framework, The WHO’s Framework for Children’s Health, UNICEF’s Disability Framework, The International Disability Alliance (IDA) Framework, The Global Partnership for Children with Disabilities (GPCD) Framework, The Convection on the Rights of the Child (CRC), National Action Plan for Children with Disabilities (2016/17-2020/21) and Agreements and National Legal Frame Work.

OUR OBJECTIVES

SOSAI approach to issues and challenges that affects children with disabilities can be achieved through the following outlined objectives.

  • Improve nutrition and health of children with disabilities.
  • Empower parents of children with disabilities through income-generating activities and vocational skills.
  • Enhance financial literacy and sustainable agricultural practices.
  • Increase access to inclusive education for children with disabilities.
  • Build capacity for teachers to support children with disabilities.
  • Develop adapted curriculum and individualized education plans.
  • Promote social integration and awareness about rights of children with disabilities.
  • Advocate for policies and legal frame work that supports children with disabilities.
  • Provide assistive technology, rehabilitation, services and legal support.
