Sign Language for All
SOSAI’s Sign Language for All Program empowers deaf and hard of hearing individuals especially deaf children and their families in Uganda by:
Providing sign language education classes and workshops in the community especially in remote areas to create awareness hence advocating for deaf children’s rights and promoting inclusion.
Training teachers and interpreters to ensure high standards of communication assistance especially aid workers working in remote and hard of reach areas.
Developing and distributing accessible learning materials and resources such as card boards, making accessible animations and videos in sign language.
Promoting awareness and advocacy for sign language recognition and use in public services, education, and media through awareness activities such as sign language debate challenge, sign language day out and promotion of sign language clubs.
Integrating sign language into healthcare, education, and government services through training each specific categories of professions such as teachers, social workers and health workers.
Supporting deaf individuals and families through training, support groups, and counseling services made available such as sign language mentorship program.
The program aims at bridging the communication gap, enhance social integration, and improve access to services for the deaf community, fostering greater awareness and understanding of deaf culture and sign language.
